Our Reference #: 54732

An exceptionally rare Georgian Old Sheffield Plate globe ink stand made c. 1810. The 2 section lid revolves open to reveal its original Bristol Blue glass inkwells and pounce pot with OSP lids.

Condition: It is a little out of shape and has a historical repair at one of its vertical bar joins with the 'equator' bar and has lost its original 'swags' decoration below the equator bar. Doesn't open quite as well as it once would have but still operable with some manual intervention. One small pinhead dent to lid and a small dent to underside of globe. Original key is missing but it's catches can be operated by inserting the pipe reamer tool (provided) into the finial's hole. There are some inner rim breaks to the opened rim of the lid when folded down, fine when closed. One of the glass pots has some rim chipping, otherwise fine. The wood to the inside of the pot stand section has some breaks but it cant really be seen anyway. Priced according to condition & rarity, slightly better condition examples sell for twice this ask price.
