Our Reference #: 53887
An Old Sheffield Plate meat cover mounted with a superbly modeled sterling silver lion finial by William Burwash bearing duty mark and lion passant only but c. 1813-1821.
Condition: Cover is gleaming silver, no obvious exterior copper bleed, minor copper bleed to underside rim. Slight dent to one side of body and the 1st band of decoration up from the base rim has a little gap at one end at another minor dent. Lion is in superb condition - note there are no hallmarks to the lion or the fixing nut, just to the band of decoration around it, but it is definitely 'solid' silver, it is too early to be anything else. The lion is literally 'solid' not hollow, the plinth on which it stands is hollow. The finial including its nut weighs 154g.
