UNUSUAL ANTIQUE DUTCH STERLING SILVER STAND SET C. 1841 BONEBAKKER EN ZOON Item #56442
A very intriguing thing – it has us fairly stumped anyway! The pierced basket form vessel incorporates trees, monkeys, pheasants, birds and snakes. This has a silver bolt that screws through its base into the wooden stand. The other piece has a top that looks like a cream jug and a base that looks like a candlestick and fits tightly into the recessed hole in the wooden base – this incidentally takes a modern size candle quite nicely. Both pieces are marked with the 1st standard Dutch lion rampant silver mark & assay mark for Amsterdam, the jug bearing no other markings and the basket additionally bearing Bonebakker en Zoon markings to underside along with a makers mark of TGB and date letter ‘G’ for 1841. The silver fixing bolt bears the sword marking. This is as found but nothing too serious. There are some breaks the pierced basket frame in places. This piece has a slight angle from horizontal but it appears that is how it was made as there are no dents to the base or pedestal. The jug/candle holder has a broken handle but the broken piece is present and can be repaired. This piece has a couple of very minor shallow dents to its bellied area on one side. The wooden base has 1 of its feet replaced but it’s a reasonable job and it doesn’t notice unless you turn it upside down and examine it. Some age related wear obviously to the wooden base and a minor cosmetic crack to underside and to the replacement foot. Total silver weight is 180g. Total weight including base is 275g. Note that this will be packed in separate pieces for shipping purposes and will need re-assembling. GBP149.99
