ANTIQUE RUSSIAN SOLID SILVER CASKET / CIGAR BOX – 1ST KOKOSHNIK c. 1900 Item #53724
A lovely Russian box bearing 1st Kokoshnik 84 markings and dating c. 1900. Gilt washed interior. Assayer appears to be Ivan Lebedkin, Moscow (1899-1908) per the ‘head only’ Kokoshnik mark to interior of lid, full Kokoshnik with ’84’ to underside of box but not so easy to decipher. Makers mark nearest match seems to be Feodor Ruckert, it fits for Moscow and the timeframe but this is a ‘stab in the dark’, it may be an earlier example of his work and marks, pre his well known cloissone work for Faberge. Overall good, some minor dents mainly to feet and some tarnish marks. A couple of depressions to lid caused by the ball finial of the hinged handle. The hinge pin of the lock clasp to front has a historical ‘home-made’ wire replacement and to the left lower side of clasp there is a very tiny crack in the silver (non-threatening). Interior good. GBP499.99
